Greetings from Zurich!
There are 50 very weary Bond travellers in the Central Plaza Zurich tonight. The dread plague has continued to hit and a few of us booked into a clinic to check for pneumonia, and have come away armed with antibiotics and $20 worth of panadol!! They very carefully explained to take one in moning and then one at midday etc. I'm thinking we buy this for $2.99 in Australia.
Still, the mood is good and there is talk of us getting the full experience of being sick like Zwingli here in Zurich. He was one of the 3,000 that survived out of the population of 12,000.
Interesting tidbit: to help his students get strnger after plague swept through, Zwingli defied bishop of canton and encouraged his boys by eating sausage even though it was Lente. He had to face severe punishment for this.
Another area i need to explore after tour is the Reformed King Adolphe from Sweden coming down with his men to help German Protestants fight Holy Roman Empire -Charles V.
Had a long wait at border. Lots of credit cards were pulled out, as Pieter, our bus driver, needed not all our passports; all putting on seatbelts and all priming of little kids to talk about parents and tour leader i glowing terms.
We were ure that it was the plague that made it take SO long!! Another guy, on tour with his love wife, pulled his huge white t shirt over his head and said, perhaps a3t that moment we were losing one of our solas and sense of perseverance of saints....:) He bellow, "Just bury me in the Grossmunster!" :)
Tomorrow, we need to get up at the crack of dawn, to drive three hours to Geneva to be there for a Knox Presbyterian service preached from Calvin's poem in St. Pierre. The congregation will be taking us all in for lunch.
In the afternoon, we will study the 1909 Refo Wall and then finush up with grand dinner tkmorrow night.
Have to sleep now..,
I'm loving your updates and photos, Gerry! Sounds like the tour is just totally awesome (except for you guys getting sick). Keep taking those vitamins you took along, and stay warm! cheers, marls
